Bring Your Own Device
(BYOD)
At St Nicholas, we have worked hard to become a BYOD school. As of August 2018, BYOD is available to pupils in P5-7.
This means the pupils are invited to bring in their own devices each day, for use in classrooms, to enhance their learning. This is an opportunity, not a requirement, and school devices (including netbooks and Ipads) will continue to be available to all classes.
Benefits of BYOD:
- Personalisation of learning.
- Pupils are more familiar and therefore more confident with their own devices.
- Pupils can share knowledge, apps, websites and resources more easily.
- Pupils can simultaneously work on a digital project together.
- Pupils will have easier access to their projects outwith lessons.
If pupils wish to take part in BYOD, they must read, understand and sign the responsible user agreement, which they will be expected to adhere to at all times, for the safety and security of themselves, their peers, and their devices. Parents must also give written permission for devices to be brought into school.
